GE FREE NORTHLAND (in Food & Environment) opposes the use of genetic engineering outside the strict containment of the lab, due to the unpredictable and irreversible nature of the risks to the enviornment and the public health (as well as the risk to our quality primary production, growing organic industry and tourism). The continued trialling of GE crops and animals, when liability has yet to be established and transgenic pollution is a risk, is unacceptable. We also oppose the presence of GE ingredients in the national food supply in New Zealand- these products should be pulled from the market until long term toxicological tests have been done and there is both a nutritional reason for their presence and public demand. New Zealand Open Rescue
New Zealand Open Rescue formed in 2006 after New Zealand animal advocates became immensely frustrated with the Government's lack of real action for animals on factory farms. Since then, New Zealand Open Rescue members have conducted many rescues and investigations at battery hen farms, broiler chicken farms and pig farms across the country. New Zealand Open Rescue works to advocate on behalf of factory farmed animals in numerous ways including; documentary making, film screenings, media commentary, publishing articles, public speaking, school talks and education stalls.
